Microsoft Tag

Apparently this has been out some while, but i have only just discovered it today, although it still is in beta. It is a 2d barcode system, called a tag, you take a picture of this tag using your phones camera and a nifty application installed from here, and this then launches a browser which will navigate to the url which is linked to your tag.

I tested this today and did find that i could change the url of the tag on the fly, what i mean by this is that even if the tag has gone to print and lets say, the url changes for some reason, you can change it on a tag management site here. One drawback of this means that your application needs to connect to the internet to download the link information, but to be honest if your "tagging" something your going to need the internet connection for the mobile internet page anyway.

The tag application supports every mobile operating system going too which is really handy. I have only tested it on my Touch HTC HD device with windows mobile 6.1 installed, and it does seem to run pretty quick.

I have a Sony Ericcson p990i kicking around somewhere, and a java Sony Ericcson, i will attempt to test on these and let you know.

Well thats pretty much it, for demo purposes i have created a black and white tag which navigates to this site, if you want to have a go take a picture of the image below using the tag software, which can be found here.
